A Community Event Breaking Down Barriers to Teen Mental Health

Normal is Overrated is an annual community-wide event inviting teens and young adults, along with their families, friends, advocates, health professionals, and community partners, to join together in busting through the walls of shame and alienation associated with mental and behavioral health to open the doors to acceptance and inclusivity.

An interactive and informative event created by students, Normal is Overrated shines a light on the mental and behavioral health struggles teens and young people face. This year’s program will include:

  • Inspiring stories with first-hand experience
  • Art therapy and interpretive dance performance
  • Opportunity to connect with mental health services and resources available in SWFL

A Safe Space for All

Normal is Overrated is creating a space in the community for open and supportive conversations around mental health. Coming together with an open mind and heart, this is an opportunity for each of us to explore and deepen our understanding of acceptance and compassion while continuing to raise awareness and promote meaningful conversations about mental health.

Teens & Young Adults

This is an opportunity to connect and hear from students in your community who are experiencing similar struggles with their mental and behavioral health. You are not alone; we are here to help and support you.

& Friends

One of the best ways to support your loved one with their mental and behavioral health issues is to listen. Hear from the experiences of local young people and mental health experts to discover how you can support their journey.

Community Partners & Advocates

Whether you are a mental health professional, a health care provider, or an advocate passionate about improving the stigma around mental and behavioral health, your participation helps teens find the support they need.

2023 Normal is Overrated

We invite you to view last year’s Normal is Overrated event to see the transformative power of inspiring stories and open conversations and how they can break down barriers and stigmas surrounding behavioral and mental health.
