CARES Act Offers Benefits for Nonprofit Support

While we are constantly bombarded with bad news about the impacts of COVID-19, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed on March 27, 2020, has good news: provisions to encourage support of Lee Health and other nonprofits providing critical services in response to the global pandemic.

The CARES Act provides additional tax benefits for nonprofit donations for individual taxpayers whether they take a standard deduction or itemize, corporations, retirees and donors who sell depreciated stock and make a cash gift from the sale.

Donors to nonprofits in 2020 can receive tax benefits for 2021 tax filling, including support of SWFL Stronger Together fund that helps provide critical resources, equipment and supplies for our medical teams on the frontline of fighting the pandemic.
