Daniel Gains Confidence Through the Right Care

For children who experience trauma at an early age, the impact can reach far beyond a single moment. It can affect how they learn, how they connect with others, and, ultimately, how they see themselves. Without the right support, families can feel overwhelmed trying to navigate these complex emotional and behavioral challenges for their children, especially when barriers like language, cost, and access to care stand in the way.

When “Daniel” was referred to the Mental Health Navigator Program, he was struggling with severe anxiety, emotional distress at school, and difficulty regulating his emotions after witnessing domestic violence. These experiences had begun to influence his self-esteem, relationships with peers, and his academic progress in the classroom. At the same time, his family faced significant challenges accessing the care he needed.

Connecting “Daniel’s” Family to Care

Through the program, “Daniel’s” family was connected with a dedicated Mental Health Navigator who helped them find the support they needed. This included supporting “Daniel’s” mother in obtaining a pediatric appointment, an important step that led to a behavioral health referral. Soon, “Daniel” began receiving consistent therapy, which helped him develop essential coping skills, learn to better regulate his emotions, and improve how he communicated with others.

At the same time, “Daniel’s” mother received support of her own. Through therapy and parent education classes, she gained tools to better support her son and became a stronger advocate for her family’s needs.

With the support of their Mental Health Navigator, meaningful change began to take shape. “Daniel” showed greater focus and engagement in the classroom, resulting in notable academic success. Socially, this translated into improved self-esteem that helped build and maintain friendships. With increased stability and support at home, “Daniel’s” family can help sustain his progress.

Making Support Accessible for Even More Families

With guidance and consistent support, children can overcome difficult challenges and move forward with hope and resilience.

Mental Health Navigators play a critical role in helping our communities’ families overcome barriers to access the care their children need to thrive. By walking alongside families, Navigators ensure no one has to face these challenges alone.

Support from donors and advocates makes this work possible – helping more children like “Daniel” build the skills and confidence they need for a brighter future.
